SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I, 405-367 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23 mm, 17.35 g, 9 h), unsigned dies in the style of Eukleidas, circa 399-387. Charioteer driving quadriga galloping to left, holding reins in his left hand and kentron in his right; above, Nike flying right, crowning the charioteer with a wreath; in exergue, dolphin swimming left. Rev. [ΣΥΡAKOΣIΩN] Head of Arethousa to left, her hair bound with sphendone over which several tresses fly back; she wears a double hook earring and a plain necklace; around, three dolphins swimming downwards, one upwards. Fischer-Bossert, Coins, 92 (O33/R64). Jameson 808 (same dies). Nanteuil 364 (same dies). SNG ANS 297 (same dies). SNG München 1070 (same dies). Tudeer 92 (O33/R64). Lightly toned and of fine style. The obverse struck from the usual worn die, otherwise, good very fine.
